Spinal Cord Injury

Most spinal cord injuries are caused by falls, playing sport, gun shot wounds and car accidents and cause paralysis of the body. Depending on where in the spinal cord the damage occurs will decide which areas of the body will be paralyzed.

There are two forms of paralysis that are caused by a spinal cord injury, paraplegia and quadriplegia. Paraplegia is the loss of sensation in the legs and lower body, quadriplegia is the total loss of sensation from the neck down. Only about 1 in 4 paraplegics and 1 in 3 quadriplegics return to their previous employment, which will obviously lead to major financial considerations for somebody suffering from either injury.

When a person has suffered a spinal cord injury, it is advised to contact a personal injury lawyer who specializes in these kind of injuries in order to claim appropriate compensation, to cover not only the initial medical costs but also the inevitable extra costs that living with spinal cord injury involves.
